I'll go with what Joedoe said and be done with it. He had done who knows how many frame swaps and probably a few subframe swaps.
I've seen the rag joints that failed when they had just a tad too much angle on them. They are actually a cushion to dampen the jolt to your hands a bit and not intended to compensate for excess angles. I'm not familiar with the Astro van flex thingy but I'll take his word as gospel on that.
