I'm a stepside fan as well and yes, I agree. Everything is about power, money, and control. Sadly, too many are willing to sacrifice their right to choose for a bit of false security. An entity that provides everything can also ration or take everything away.
EV's will take over the urban and suburban areas but practicality will still come into play. When the politicians realize they are not getting the gasoline tax they need to maintain the roads the price to get tags for an EV will go out of sight. It has to happen, there is not other way. It's already happening to a certain degree where many states charge higher rates for EV's and hybrids due to the lower gasoline consumption. The king will get is pound of flesh one way or the other.
