Legislation is already being proposed to offset the fuel tax loss associated with EVs. The proposal is that a device will be added to all vehicles that will report mileage. That information will be used to charge a tax on a per mile basis.
This would mean that EVs using public roadways but not paying for them via fuel taxes, would pay via mileage. There goes that incentive.
The really scary thing is the proposals include not just EVs but all vehicles regardless of what type of fuel they run. So those of us who drive fossil fueled vehicles would pay even more than what we currently pay via fuel taxes, oh boy!
