This is a little off the gasket topic, but several years ago I got back to my truck after a morning in the woods deer hunting, and when I opened the door, there was a strong gas smell. I opened all the windows and drove back home (5 miles), and proceded to look at the things you guys have mentioned, and couldn't spot anything out of order, yet the gas smell was strong. A little more looking and feeling around, and I discovered the carpet wet under the seat, so I knew then there was a leak. Proceded to take the seat out, and the carpet and insulation were soaked worse than I thought. The culprit was a piece of gravel that had become wedged between the floor pan and bottom of the tank. No telling how long it had been there, but it was tightly wedged and had managed to wear a pinhole into the tank. I guess the moral of the story is, if anyone has the seat out for any reason, it not only is a good time to give the area around the tank a good cleaning, but worth a look for anything that might have gotten in between the floor and tank, 'cause it doesn't take much to create a problem.
