That U-Joint - Attaches to the column? If so it should match the end of the column and be double set screwed and jamb nutted also. You may have an incorrect u-joint?
The shaft should slide inside the larger shaft to allow it to collapse, the rubber (in theory) keeps it from rattling. No pin.
