Supposedly the plastic plug would pop out and get lost if you closed the door with windows up, so they switched to metal plate held by screws in some year, perhaps 71.

I got a metal plate for my 1969 truck that surely came with the plastic plug, because there are no screw holes. I plan to install it the next time my engine is out. The later year trucks also got a vent in the door frame to allow for the doors to be shut with windows up without causing them to be hard to close.
