I can tell ya I dropped the one on my '86 blazer.. used pipe fittings for spacers 1".. never needed to grind the cv on the front driveline..
I will however hint around to sandwiching the frame where the bolts go through.
I started to crack my frame from flexing and torque..
so I took steel plates 1/4 or so and sandwiched the frame ..then just tackweled them in place..
never had a problem since..
