Have not changed a 6 Cyl, but would recomend placing a filter in the rubber hose between the frame and the pump to keep trash out of the new pump. I use the small semi-clear plactic Frams on my V-8's, not sure of the part number.
If you don't have the pliers like Todd sugested, have a old spark plug present and just shove it in the hose as soon as you take it loose.
