Before you go to far off the kilter here, my truck is a daily driver and I relocated the gas tank to the spare spot. I don't carry a spare, but I do carry a 2 year old little girl in the truck and feel much safer with the gas tank out of the cab with her in the cab. Some might argue that it hangs too low. I will tell you that in my opinion a newer jeep cherokee and wrangler have tanks that hang much lower than these tanks do. There is plenty of cushion between the back bumber of the truck and the tank also. I don't have a spare, but my insurance has free roadside and towing and I also keep a large can of fixaflat. On the very rare occasion that I might get a flat and need to have it fixed, I will take a little inconvenience over safety any day.
