I haven't pulled an engine from a 4x4, but I unbolted my 283 at the bellhousing and lifted it up and out. I left the flywheel and clutch assembly attached to the engine when I pulled it. Also put it back together that way.
Definitely helped having the hood off. I used the engine hoist to pull and reinstall the hood too
Throw a jack or two under the transmission for good measure though
