I just redid the door panels on my 71 C30 Cheyenne Super. I coated the back of the metal part of the panel with a spray on undercoating, not super thick but just enough so that my door panel wouldnt slide up far enough like yours. I took a wide scraper and carefully spread the chrome open a little bit at a time until the panel slid up. Worked great, didnt hurry the process so as not to damage the strip.

Good deal. I will try that. These were uncoated (new from JEGS) but the detail led to a couple rolled seams that probably added a little thickness. I will see what happens. Thanks!

Those look nice. Without a lathe I think what you did was the next best thing and should hold up just fine. Nice pieces you made.
