the side that fits the door does have the plastic tensioners.. ive had to tighten those before, but those have no bearing on how far the mirror sticks out from the door

I was about to reply with the same answer . The travel trailer add on Mirrors I just bought are to fit ither side stated when you buy them ,, But in my case the only side it fits is the long tube mirror on the drivers side ,, If most mirrors are the short tube ones ,,then these add on mirrors will not work .. you did say that your mirrors are the short tube ones ,, right ?
Here is what I did ., I backed up to my trailer close to the tounge and while sitting in the truck seat and looking in my drivers mirror and passenger mirror with out the add on mirrors , I could see down both sides of the travel trailer.. NOW here is the puzzling part.
My travel trailer is 8ft 1 inch wide and when I run my tape measure through the drivers side window to the outer part of of the passenger side mirror and read the tape at the drivers side mirror at the outer edge I read right at 8 ft.. I guess because my truck mirrors are infront of the travel trailer close to 14 ft ,it allows one to see down the sides of the travel trailer,, ??? I know ,,sounds not possible .. but this is a true fact..
I still want the add on mirrors so I can aim them down towards the travel trailer tires .
