On a full foam seat cushion a 1" piece of foam would probably be too much , 1-2 layers of dacron padding should do the job . This shop located in Monroe should have everything you need ,

This video starting at 2:46 in shows how the correct way to install a truck seat cover is done , Invert the cover and lay it on top of the seat and roll the edges over , Flip the seat upside down and start hog ringing the cover on from the back first .
