Re: 67 truck info stuff

Depends on your towing style and weight.
I have a Silverado and tow a lot.
Yes, I even tow in overdrive if the load isn't too heavy or the frontal area huge.
In my case the frontal area makes a bigger difference than the weight.
Frankly I don't know where the "can't tow with a 4L60 or a 4L60E comes from.
GM has had towing specification for them all from the inception of the 4L60 in 1982.
I am confident 100 of millions of miles have driven while towing with the 4L60 and it's derivatives.
I had 5000 lbs of rock in my 3/4 ton, BBC with 4l60, (back in the day when these truck were workhorses) and backed up a steep driveway that required almost full throttle to climb with the load.
Possibly it was the 1982-1986 4L60 transmissions that were problematic.
I recommend staying away from the early models. The 1987 and up are fine transmissions and will take quite the load. Keep the oil changed as the bushing are considerable smaller than say the THM400. Dirty oil exasperates the busing wear. Keep it cool and you will likely not have any issues.
