thats what I ws trying to allude to before, not about the resistors but about wiring it so the ammeter only reads what the battery needs and the alternator takes care of the rest of the loads in the background. otherwise when you turn on a load, like turn signals, the ammeter flops around like a fish outta water.if it is wired so the ammeter reads all the loads then it would need an ammeter capable of the alternator output plus a safety margin. personally I prefer a volt gauge. thats just me though. if it's a "run what ya brung" scenario then wire it to sense charge or discharge for the battery, not a truck circuit load sensing thing. however, it seems like the truck doesn't have much for loads. the alt will get off easy and so should the old ammeter.
