The K/5 designator is a remnant of a quarter ton vehicle General Motors almost produced. I've seen pictures. They were hideous, IMO, but the smaller truck project never flew.
In the end, to make it on line for the 1969 Model Year, they decided to cut down the K/10 Frame from 115'' to 104'' and build a convertible shortened fleetside.
That's why the GMC Jimmy is called a K/1500 not a K/750. GMC considered it still a half ton chassis. The bigger format allowed full size body parts to be used in assembly.
The rest is history.
Later, they got into the S/10, S/1500 series, but that's a different animal.
