Washington was the only president who didn't belong to a political party. He was also the first leader of a nation to ever peacefully turn over power to a successor. He was deferential to Congress, because he believed the voice of the people should rule. He believed the Constitution created a very limited government that operated under the authority of the people. He had his faults, but he was quite an impressive leader.
