Older thread, but FWIW, I just had my '72 2-piece D/L and clamshell bearing overhauled and replaced from a local driveline shop. I've only driven it maybe a hundred miles or so since, but all is good! Funny thing, the shop had my D/L longer than anticipated because the first bearing they tried was flawed right out of the box, and they had to order another one.
The old bearing lasted about 40 years. We'll see how this one does!
