I have seen it two ways. On my 71 suburban it runs from the battery to the frame through a wire holder bolted to the top of the frame. Then it goes to the front of the engine and runs under the oil pan rail in 2 clips to the starter.

I have also seen it go along the top of the frame to the started with a clamp at the front and one straight over from the starter on the frame.
