Don't worry, it isn't broken.. It's designed as a 2 piece switch.. Reference the picture in my link, they fit together only 1 way.. The "J" part of the spring hooks on the end of that plastic housing.. The assembly then slides down into that square hole on the housing. The little white "tooth" on the lock cylinder is what activates the metal part of the switch. The "tooth" only makes contact when the lock cylinder is in the OFF position. Open the door and the buzzer sounds. Turning the key to the "LOCK" position turns the buzzer off and the key can be removed.
