Texas must be in a special vortex of opportunity, because I've seen motorhomes in several junkyards, and never yet found one with the steering column gone out of it.

Myself, it's just another tool in my toolbox of tricks to build these trucks cheaper than the rest of the guys doing them. Knowlege is power.
