The repro grill mounting hardware uses a nut and bolt to secure the grill in this area. GM used a captive nut clip and a short bolt as you can’t get your fingers or a wrench in there very easily, especially now since we closed up that space. Could that be why the mount was where it was, to give more room? Nah, who knows, looks good now though (before pic #3, both OE or repro valance fit the same).
