Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Actually I just wanted to replace my broken Pinion yoke, the join was running to the sides and wasn't guided cleanly and because I also have humming noises, I immediately got an overtaking kit for the differential.
The differential has been overhauled before.
The differential also came out of the case very easily, which surprised me.
On the Pinion the bearing behind the yoke was broken, all other bearings were undamaged and running cleanly.
Pinion was assembled with a new crush sleeve and new yoke, the crush sleeve was broken and the preload was set to 19 inch pounds, a stupid job under the truck.
But the carrier has 0.20mm(0.00787inches) axial play, which is far too much, it is supposed to have 0.010 preload, backslash is also too much at 0.45 (0,0177inches).
I first ordered shims for the carrier and a solid spacer for the Pinion and will probably have to readjust it.
