Re: Eliminate draft tube options

Phase 1 - Started today, while no tears were shed, plenty of bad words were applied to the task.

After removing the supercharger, alternator, outer fender, inner fender, AC compressor, radiator and upper and lower hose, and disconnecting the AC condenser, I was able to work on the timing cover.

It took a bit of elbow grease (and mineral spirits) to get the timing cover and all gasket/RTV residue off the block. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the squirter looks to be ok. Here is the after picture - Name: IMG_4641.jpg

The oil is now draining from the oil pan and I will leave it overnight. Tomorrow (Phase 2) I will deal with removing the oil pan.

One question has arisen after removing the timing cover. The crank shaft measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter, not counting the key way. The seal that was on the timing cover was larger than the crank shaft and it measures an opening of 1 11/16 inches. Is the larger opening on the seal in order to get it over the key way?

Thanks.
