The alternator is all original, nothing changed or replaced in it. 60k miles in 56 years.
Who sells the D635 and what's the price?

Man, I couldn't tell you, I stole it off of my now not running '66(going through changes) a few months back. If I'm not mistaken, it was on there when I bought it 25 years ago. Sorry bud.

You can find NOS ones on eBay. The cost seems to be between $175 and $400. Lots of them are labeled NOS but are "new old stock" from aftermarket vendors.
I think the NOS usage in this manner is bad advertising.

I had mine rebuilt but an individual who specializes in this service. Did an amazing job and ran them at temperature to confirm everything is correct. I have had zero issues with his rebuilt regulators. I wasn't able to find the vendor quickly but will look it up if anyone is interested. The Delco regulators are also date-coded if that is important to you. The date is why I had mine rebuilt.
Cheers

MacataQ, now is your chance to upgrade your charging system. Unless you just want to keep things exactly original, you can install an internally regulated alternator.. Minor wiring modifications and you're in business.. How to do this simple procedure is all over the internet, including our own ELECTRICAL forum.
Thank You. Now I really feel Old. LOL

Yeah, I remember a GM circular or illustration in an Overhaul Manual, Showing a Technician's long necktie getting caught up in the fan/fanbelt during testing. Another one for the [then] young Hippy Generation showed a Dude getting his long hair caught. Now I see a lotta guys who are skinheads without identifying with the whole Nazi Punk vibe.
They used to train techs to adjust the VRs. Now they just throw a new part at it. The problem is the new parts are duds.
I heard an anecdote, that a Chinese factory was detailed to copy a part for replacement. They had a defective unit for their model. Ergo they produced perfect copies of defective parts...

Well, I stated above that I upgraded to a 12SI w/ internal regulator on my '71 GMC Jimmy [V8 350] and was lucky to be able to cannibalize a good [1998] VR off my '67 K/10 Suburban for my '68 C/10 Stepside [L6 292]. When it comes time to rebuild the Sub, ''White Fang,'' I'll probably go 12SI again. I do have a box of cast off VRs, including at least one DelcoRemy embossed black cover, but I've never been obsessed enough to be a
numbers-matching guy.

[Asking for a friend, how much did your specialist charge you for rebuilding a DelcoRemy VR?]
