Canadian

Railworkers strike. That could put a hurt on a lot of people in Canada and USA. Down here we bring in a lot of lumber from Canada so we will all see lumber shortages and prices soaring again all across the US.

Re: Canadian

This ain't over yet by any means.

The railroads try to avert the union plans by locking them out using the safety card. In other words they shut the trains down so no hazardous cargo or high value cargo wouldn't be stranded in dangerous places.

The Canadian government ordered the railroads to return to operation.

The Teamsters serve 72 hour strike notice to expire at 10:00 8/26.

The lumber shortage is one of the smaller consequences. Canada is the #1 supplier of Potash, which is used for crop fertilizing all around the world. (The other large suppliers of Potash are Russia and the Ukraine. They seem to be occupied with other things at present.)

This flow has been disrupted and it will have ripple effects through out the farming world. There is only a small percentage of Potash stock piled relative to the normal demand, and that will be exhausted in short order if the railroad stoppage continues for any length of time. Expect food prices to rise as farm output will fall if fertilizers are unavailable or in short supply.
