The truck that has the record of the most sold each
year is from what commercials tell us is the Ford ,,but could it be because they have the fleet business all to them selves that put them in the lead or does this have any thing to do with how many trucks are sold? This is a question I been wanting you-alls opinions on for some time ,, I see many Chevies on the streets and Dodges too so please share what you think.

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
They have lost their edge . I’m seeing more and more Dodge and Chevy fleet trucks replacing the Fords . My town just bought 18 dodge 3500 trucks for the highway dept . Mostly new Chevy trucks in DOT job sites . When I worked for the village of Scarsdale years ago they were buying new Fords cheaper than what they got at auction for 3 and 4 year old trucks . Ford made nothing and may have been losing money on them . Guessing the figured that the guys grieving them would buy fords for their personal vehicles . Ford is in a bad situation with trucks they invested so much and lost in EV trucks they need to turn a profit on the others . So now Chevy and Dodge fleet bids are competitive.

.
My understanding is that Ford is #1 simply because GM splits their sales between Chevy and GMC. Combine those figures and see who really was #1. -Kevin

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
In 45+ years of driving, I've owned around 140 vehicles. 4 of them were fords. One had a chevy drivetrain. I don't have any major beef with them, I just never really cared much for their stylig. The 78-79 swb ford 4x4 looked good as well as the early first gen bronco. There are a lot of new F250s on the roadways around here. It is how and where we grew up and our early influences on what we buy later in life. I have had bad luck with GM products too through the years. They do a lot of bragging on being the top seller though.

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
A real big part of being the "best seller" is only due to Ford's pricing though. Normally GM trucks resale for much more than Fords, from what I have observed.

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
I run a fleet of 500+ vehicles and equipment for the local water utility. Believe me, every single manufacturer has a fleet division. My previous supervisor did a lot to standardize our fleet, and it's helped more than most people realize. The fleet tech's productivity increases, our relationship with suppliers is great, and the number of parts we have to stock is low. The big thing currently is most places just need vehicles. Since the covid delays many places just bought what they could to keep vehicles turning over according to their TCO & lifecycle plans. Also, the pricing can vary wildly between brands. I purchase most of our vehicles through cooperative contracts that have already been competitively solicited. Look at these two offerings through the VA sheriffs association. A 2wd silverado starts at $20k & a 2wd F-150 at $37k...

2 wheel drive Silverado starts at 20k...please...tell more. I'd like to know the details of that 20k truck. Does that come with the base 4 banger, steel wheels, no carpet, crank windows, A/C?, etc., etc? Thanks, -Kevin

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
I've always thought that was a huge part of it was Ford sells their trucks under one brand vs GM. That said Ford sells an absolute crapload of F150's and has for close to 25 years. Everywhere I look I see F150's outnumbering any other vehicle, cars SUVs included.

Thanks! That satisfied my curiosity. Looks like 5.3 V8 and some scattered options which was what I expected. If GM offered similar bare bones deals to the public, they might sell pretty good. I had a colleague who purchased a fleet truck from a dealer...it was a quad cab, white work truck with A/C being one of only a few options. Riding in that thing was strange indeed with seemingly no sound insulation and metal floors and headliner. -Kevin

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
Everything Furd makes is an F series, so their numbers are skewed...
Between and Dodge they have had multiple names and series over last 20+ years (Maybe 30, 40, 50) Furd is kinda cheating

You technically should be able to go in and work with a sales rep to order a stripped down bare bones truck, you'll just have to wait for it to get built. 99% of dealerships won't keep something like that on the lot, everyone wants a luxury pick up these days. Very few, if any of those options codes are "fleet only." Our fleet is 95% F-word, and the other 5% is international & Freightliner. Ford's "low end" XL F-series offerings have way too many standard creature comforts that jack their base price up significantly. We just received 2 2024 xtra cab short bed 4x4 F-150's, the lowest trim, only options I added were a top light, running boards and tool box, almost $50k each. The thing has an Oled gauge cluster, and in the center console an almost 13" touch screen...absolutely unneeded luxury & tech for a county work truck.

years ago the only buyers were farmers or contractors that needed a pickup for work. When people started buying trucks to use as cars the luxury and the price went skyward. Ironically the majority of truck owners now days, never use them as trucks. Personally I woudn't pay 80-100 thousand dollars for a truck and drive it down through the corn patch

Neither would I!! Even the used ones are a tough pill to swallow. We auction all our stuff. Late last year we had a 2016 F-350 ex cab with an 8' service body, 180k miles, went for $10k at auction, showed up on a local dealer lot a few weeks later for $14k

Re: The truck that has the record of the most sold each
From another forum I belong to...
The company I've been working for for the last 36 years has fleet purchased from all the big 3. Was so great that me as a peon of an employee used to get the fleet price from any of them. That's where my fully loaded '04 Z71 Tahoe that was purchased for $34k, when MSRP was over $46K came from. None of them offer fleet pricing anymore for joe schmo. And I've read from several sources that Tahoes are in such high demand that LEO fleets are having to be filled with F-150s... that they don't want. Tahoes handle better in high speed pursuits, greater and more secure storage... and they look cooler than FERDS. sorry. I do have to severely bash the Ewe's though. Main bearing failures at under 50k on three fleet trucks in a row within months of each other. Trans issues within months of new. Failed heater cores for decades( and those things aren't Chevy easy to replace)
