Engine install "67"
Can I install a 283 block with manual sm-420 transmission as one unit bolted together into a 1967 GMC truck? The transmission crossmember is riveted to the frame, is this going to prevent the installation?

Re: Engine install "67"
Never tried it. I always bolted the bell housing to the engine and landed the two on the mounts. Then I installed the trans from the underside. A 3 speed may be possible but the higher 4 speed case may give you a little problem.

Re: Engine install "67"
You'll never get that much iron threaded into place, way to bulky and heavy.. Install the engine with only the bell housing attached.. then put transmission and transfer case into place as a unit. Use a transmission jack, not a floor jack. It's still a struggle, but a much easier task...

Re: Engine install "67"
If the truck has the high transmission tunnel, I would take that out and bolt the transmission to the bellhousing through the cab floor. I've done that on my 67, and it's a lot easier than lying on your back using a transmission jack.
