Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
This afternoon I was able to get the drinker side door on the stand and strip all the guts out of it. Started with stripping the rattle can black off the upper part of the door frame, then went over the inside door to see if there were any other areas that I might have missed the first go around with fixing dents and rust a few months ago. Only found two or three small areas that needed attention. Got those knocked out in short order time and moved on to getting it ready for a full coat of black surface primer. Clean, clean, clean, then wax and grease remove, and finally primer.
After I finished prepping that for paint I was also able to flip the captain's side door that I primed the inside of a couple of days ago over the weekend. Got that one ready for a coat of primer and started spraying. All of the items that are metal that were pulled out of the inside will get treated and sprayed with some new paint to preserve them. The hinges will get sandblasted in my cabinet, and the hinge pins replaced. I ordered all new rubber and window wipers for the truck, including the items needed to rebuild the wind wings. One regulator was shot and the other on the drinker's side was good to go, just needs good cleaning and lubrication. Next up, flipping the door and completing the other side. Then prepping the roof and A-Pillars for primer and Dark Blue paint.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
I got out in the shop early this morning and flipped over the drinker side door I was working on yesterday. Started to go over this door and realized that there was no major dent or damage to the front side of this door. A few little nicks and, one small spot about the size of a dime and some wonky screw holes from the mirrors. A few places also had pitting caused by the upper and lower trim pieces trapping dirt, debris, and moisture. Last issue was after I removed the lock and handle you can see there was a little cleanup work to be done, again not a big deal, and a very solid door.
Pulled out the mig welder and welded shut a small screw hole on the upper door. knocked it down with 120 grit roloc on a small air grinder. Then topped everything off with a few swipes of filler and in short order of time we were almost ready for a coat of black high build primer. While I was working on the door and waiting for the filler to dry, I started on the cab roof by taping off the trim line so I could scuff sand the Medium Blue paint that overshot the trim line. It will make for a much better bite for the primer and Dark Blue paint coming next.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
I was in the garage early this morning before work and got things taped off on the cab. Then on my lunch break, I got it all wiped down and cleaned for a little primer.
Next up I will be moving on to the inside of the cab to get it ready for primer and paint. Since I have never done a two-tone truck I am guessing that it will be easier to spray the roof after the inside is painted so I can tape off from the inside on the door rubber jamb and seam for the windshield to shoot the Dark Blue on the roof and outer door seams and jamb. As always here are a few pictures for those watching.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
Jumped on some interior items that needed fine-tuning before primer and paint. I had previously stripped the front of the dash of all the paint, however, there were a few places that needed some extra attention where I missed in the tight corners and contours. Knocked that out with a small wire brush and 320-grit dry paper. Scuff sanded the top of the dash that was recently painted with a red Scotchbrite pad and water.
Later today I hope to get the rest of the interior wiped down and masked off for primer. Not doing any busy work on the area that gets a headliner since it will be covered up with a new headliner and trim ring. The first picture shows the shine of the single-stage Medium Blue paint. The second picture shows the dulling from the Scotchbrite so that the Dark Blue paint will have something to bite to.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
Well, after a few weeks off to heal my lower back, I'm back on the project a little at a time. I'm trying to ease into what's ahead instead of going full speed. This was right at three full weeks of therapy, acupuncture, and icing several times a day.
So I finally got high build primer inside the interior, a few more spots on the roof, and scuff sanded the dash of the Medium Blue so I could get Dark Blue on it.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
Yesterday I started on getting the shop ready in the morning so I could spray on Monday. Also did some scrubbing with soap and a grey Scotchbrite to get the fenders ready for a little Medium Blue. Today I finished getting the fenders hung on the gantry and spray rack, then wiped down with wax and grease remover. Finished up with a few little odds and ends so I could spray, mixed up some paint, and let it rip.
Turned out good after three coats of Medium Blue. Will move them off the rack to the other side of the shop to cure for a day or so then back on the rack for 3m undercoating on the backside of fenders where the inner fender wells hide them. Tomorrow will work toward getting the doors up on the racks and get them in color in the afternoon. I will probably let them sit for a day or so before I mask off and spray the upper half of the door frame with the Dark Blue. Exciting to finally get color on all the items that had to be repaired. So not exciting is that someone stole my truck bed I planned for this project from my storage lot. It was a very clean bed with a mint tailgate on it, no rust or real dents, and a super straight floor. It was mounted on a truck frame that some farmer cut off to make a trailer out of it. I picked it up a couple of years ago just in case and the price was only $400. I am watching Marketplace and Craigslist like a hawk to see if it surfaces. The sad thing is this is the first thing I have ever had stolen in the entire twenty years I have lived in Idaho. It is a beautiful place but it is changing with all the people that have relocated here.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
I got the doors up on the stands a day or so ago and started scrubbing down the high build with Scotchbrite and soap. Found a few small nibs from the high build and knocked them down with a nib file and 400 grit wet dry paper on DA. A few rounds of additional primer over those areas and they are just about ready to hang for painting.
While waiting for the primer to dry I stripped the ashtray and glove box lid. Both were covered with cheap black spray paint. I was able to get most of it off with lacquer thinner and a microfiber towel. Then hit it again with wet dry paper and a few coats of rusty metal primer. Then on the glove box I had to see how the NOS Cheyenne Super woodgrain panel would fit the glove box. Should I say it "fit like a glove". So next up will be getting color on doors, glove box, and ashtray over the next day or so. Then roll the truck back in and shoot the roof and interior.

Re: Super Cheyenne aka the "Devil Cowboy"
I spent an afternoon trying to wrap up everything on a few parts that I wanted to paint with the doors, like the door hinges and bolts. I had some issues with my blast cabinet, so I tore into fixing it since the hinges and bolts are almost impossible to strip paint off. That turned into a project trying to get the Hobo Freight cabinet usable again. Now that is out of the way and moving on to setting up everything to shoot color today.
Next up will be prepping the last piece of the puzzle so I can bolt the front sheet metal on is the cleaning up and priming the core support. Then getting some satin black sprayed on the core support, hood hinges, and hood latch support. Also got my order in for anything needed to put the doors back together and anything needed for the interior. Got another gallon of Evaporust so I can pour all of it into a large flat storage container so I can soak all of the window and inner door parts to strip off any rust and get them ready to go back into the door.
