Lifters

I haven't been on in a while. Since the last time I was on, I drove my '71 to Texas and back, a 4000 mile round trip journey. I left with a "ticking" noise that I COULD NOT adjust out. After I got back home, I tore the top end apart and found 2 of the CompCams lifters had lost the retaining spring clips and when I pulled the pushrods, the lifters came apart. I am SO LUCKY they didn't come apart on the road and completely grenade my engine. I contacted Summit AND CompCams and both stated that the warranty had expired. I built the engine about a year before I actually installed it, then it was another year before it was fired. The CompCams warranty manager sent me 2 of their latest and greatest DLC (Diamond Like Coating) lifters to replace the failed lifters. I decided to rebuild the entire engine and went from .030 to .040, and a substantially bigger cam. I did some head work and chamber work on the #416 305HO heads. I used the Summit 1202 4-7 swap cam and a FULL SET of the CompCams DLC lifters. VERY happy with the new engine and the sound of the bigger cam is awesome!!! Went from a 260H single pattern to a 278- 288 dual pattern cam.

Re: Lifters

Great luck you have for sure.

I have similar stories.

You have this figured out now.

That a great choice.

Re: Lifters

Is the 307?

Good to hear it's back together and you're happy with it.
