dash light upgrade

have 78 silverado. Is there a brighter dash bulb I can use in my gauge cluster. One of my bulbs are out and since I need to replace it I need to remove the dash and a brighter dash at night would be nice. Thanks

Re: dash light upgrade

Amazon has several choices of LED bulbs.

I have never tried led bulbs.

Most of the time a good cleaning a repainting of the backing plate and replace the bulbs will brighten it up some.

Re: dash light upgrade

I missed that in the video.

Sometimes the little wires bend on those 194's

If you're replacing them with new ones that's not a big deal.

168 is the next brighter bulb that fits in same socket as 194.

Re: dash light upgrade

anyone know off hand how many dash bulbs are in the cluster. I want to make sure I have enough new LEDs before I tear into it. Thanks

The one I just looked at has total of 9.

5 on one side and 4 on the other side.

Re: dash light upgrade

update on my led bulb replacement.
Finally got some time today to replace my dash bulbs with LED"s.
Bought them off ebay. They seem to be a slightly thinner where the wires connect to the socket. I would recommend bench testing every one of them before install with sockets connected. Now that it is done, I will drive tonight and let everyone know results. I will say they are bluer than the OEMs pretty sure brighter. Will update.
