Remember the Christmas catalogue with the monster set on the cover? In 1976 my wife bought me that set, complete with the tool box and roll around chest. The box looked big at the time but it grew smaller every year. The box didn't hold up very well and I finally bought a big box and retired that one. I still have all the tools but now they are in a Chineseum box.

Funny, but I bought a Craftsman 3-drawer toolbox around that time and thought I was big-time! Then I had to buy a larger Kennedy tool chest to handle all my new tools.

Now I have the chests and cabinets below, plus some more in my main garage. And that's nowhere near what some guys have. Some of this stuff is nearly 50 years old , like the brown Kennedy chest that used to seem huge. Excuse the messy workbenches. I was in the process of moving in when I took this photo. I'm usually only half that messy!

My brother and I inherited our Grandpa's tools.

My Grandpa was a Big fan of Sears. For Sure.

As a Team My brother and I sit down and divided Grandpa's Great collection.

I do miss Sears. Sadly, Sears pretty much died 20 years ago. It just took a little while longer for the last nail in the coffin to be driven.

I can remember buying everything in Sears from clothing to appliances to tools. Kuppenheimer even had a "store within a store" at Sears back in the 1980s; I bought a suit there.

Fortunately, I've still got a good supply of Craftsman tools and they were so ubiquitous that the Made in U.S.A. Craftsman tools in good condition aren't hard to find. Having said that, however, I do still often buy new tools, Made in U.S.A. if I can find them. Klein, Channellock, Masterforce (Menard's), etc. all still have a LOT of Made in U.S.A. items.

My high voltage Klein screwdrivers only the tip was exposed. I was still required to wear high voltage gloves. I only played in 440 control cabinets, scary enough for me...

I liked going at Christmas to see what all was on sale with the tools. I would buy tools for my brothers and my brother-in-law. One for me, one for one of them, one for me...
I still have a die-hard battery I bought there when I was 18.

Put a set of Sears 235-75 "RoadHandler" tires on an 81 C10 Silverado I had back then. I remember them looking good and having a smooth ride.
