Re: Year of manufacture license plates

I have 5 vehicles registered with YOM plates. The clerk just makes sure the plates are in good condition and match the photo in their book.
There is a $15 extra fee per year to run them when you register your vehicle.

Re: Year of manufacture license plates

thank you 425hp409,

making me feel better about the plates.
My local Tax office is getting educated about this process as we go because as they say, " we have never heard if this before, we think it is illegal."
Now they are coming around to my way of thinking.
I am getting approval of my plates and putting them on my truck as Antique plates.

Re: Year of manufacture license plates

In Arizona there's no extra fee. It's the same as if I had regular plates. Just re-uped for two more years on my Jimmy.

Man, at $25/pair those 69 Truck plates are a lot cheaper than prices elsewhere, and what I paid at a swap meet.

I also have to say the 68 Hemisfair plate is really cool.

Exclamation Re: Year of manufacture license plates

in Iowa they have to check the shape of the plates , and then they give you new plates with the registration linking the old tags with the new tags, the new tags just have to be with the truck.

Re: Year of manufacture license plates

In NC you just have to put the current plate in the vehicle so you can show it and the reg if you get pulled over.
You don't need to do anything with the year correct plate except mount it to the back.
Found mine by joining a NC plate collectors group on facebook, guessing most states have them.
If you can't find a plate you like there they would be the people to tell you where to look.

Re: Year of manufacture license plates

I run YOM plates on my '57 210 sedan, '71 Chevelle and '71 4x4. The truck plate is an actual '71 truck plate with the added 1/2 ton (8M Regular) sticker applied. 3/4 ton rating is a a 12M regular sticker applied. No front plate required in Kansas so don't need to find a pair. Did not want to run an antique tag, the YOM plate just adds a bit to the overall look. $17 registration per year per vehicle, no restrictions, no added needed inspection. Need not be county correct but mine are, again, just adds more to the overall look. Clerk at the DMV just checks the plate condition and that the plate number is not being used elsewhere in another county since YOM plate need not be county specific.

Those '69 plates are sitting in my office now. I have 7 sets in that range from 6H*1601 to 6H*1616. I also bought a single Hemisfair plate to hang on the wall in the garage.

Found the plate I am running at a swap meet several years ago and being in nice shape picked it up with the YOM thought in mind at some point. The plate in the pic below was an auction purchase. Gave a $5 bill for it with only two others bidding which started at $1. Even if I never run it I just couldn't pass it up for the numbers plus the county is even correct for my use. Just don't have a BBC in my '57. Running a SBC 283 with original '57 2x4s intake and a pair of Carter WCFB carbs. Still a nice ......Score!.....

A 1957 Corvette with a 427 would be a stunner. I don't even know if they could fit a BBC into that car, but it would be maximun cool.

Re: Year of manufacture license plates

I have two sets that I bought for my Studebakers . One set is 1964 the other is 1962 . Both are mint examples but I refuse to give NY $25 extra every year for vanity plates . I can see a one time process fee but not in perpetuity. So I just used small rare earth magnets and put them on at shows . I do this too with my trucks I have a couple Wyoming truck plates
