Front Crossmember?

Are all of the front crossmembers from 67-87 the same? I understand that they bolt in the same way, but are the suspension components actually the same? Could I take a 67 crossmember and bolt on 72 A-arms and spindles to have disc brakes? Thanx for any help you can give me.

Yes you can. That's what I did with my 68. You will want to use the 72 tie rod ends too I believe. The donor 72 I got my parts off of had recently had all new tie rod ends and an idler arm, so I took everything off of it and put on mine.

Is the frame the same for all 67-72 chevy's. I have a shortened LWB frame and am planning on getting an actual SWB. I want to be able to use all my parts like, power-steering brakes, rearend, etc. Thanx for your help.

The only thing I can think of is that a 67 frame will not have the "dimple" in the frame rail to accomidate a power steering gear box. The gear is larger (wider) on the power steering gear box, thus needing the frame to be pushed in a little for it to bolt up tight. Other than that, as long as it is a coil spring truck, it should be identical.

Someone else please pop in if I am wrong.

the frames from 68-72 are the same. I changed my leaf spring 68 GMC to coil typr rear suspension by just removing all rear suspension components from a 72 Chevy & it bolted up to my frame with only drilling the holes for the upper coil mount brackets in my frame, otherwise everything went right in all most by itself. at the same time I installed bags in place of the coils.

i also trans planted a front suspension from a 80 C10. instant disc brakes

The other difference on the 67 frame verses the 68 - 72 is provisions for a big block. On the passenger side, in front of the engine is a curled up section...that is missing on the 67 frame.
