bed interchange
Ok, put aside the gas tank provisions because the truck would get a fuel cell in the bed near the headboard, but dimensionally speaking, since I havent been able to find some good 8' stepside boxsides and nobody reproduces them for the 73-87 trucks, other than the obvious wheelwell arch being asthetically different, are there problems other than relocating the bolt holes in using an earlier 8' stepside bed on a 79 LWB 1/2 ton, such as width between tires, etc? Anyone maybe have some info?

Stepside beds are the same width from the fifties to 87. Use the same tailgate and everything. You will have to modify them if you use them off 67-72 due to differences in the step and how the taillights mount. There's a thread on FAQ describing the opposite (using later sides on earlier beds) that wil give you an idea of what needs changing.
