I tried. Got as far as the checkout, then got hit with 75 dollars shipping on an item that was under 10 bucks and would fit in an envelope.

Re: any canucks order from summitt?

Before you buy from Summit check out JB's Power Center out of Edmonton. They have almost the same prices as Summit but without the hassel at the boarder and the handling fees. And their is only 1 tax. The also have free shipping on orders over $150. There website is poor but if you have the part numbers of what you want its not so bad. I buy lots from them and most stuff comes overnight to me.

had good luck with mopac auto supply in edmonton, never used summit, jegs has been good, it's ups that's hit or miss, I don't get the brokerage they charge, I've paid all kinds of brokerage and it's never consistent to anything, price, origin, I stick with mopac now just to avoid the frustration

Re: any canucks order from summitt?

if you're able to get just south of the boarder and pick it up or get someone to pick it up for it it's great...

i ordered a whole bunch of parts they wanted 700 bucks to ship in to surrey.. where if i ship it to point roberts it's 10 bucks.

i do it because it's easier.. usually faster as they always have the parts and mopac has like a 1 week wait for them.. i get summit in about 3 days on just normal ground shipping. plus it's closer for me to drive to the states than out to mopac.

Re: any canucks order from summitt?

Most of the big us retailers are similar in stock and service;if you live close to the border and can pick up in the USA it works;otherwise UPS nails you in fees/freight/brokerage.
Alberta (JBs;Mopac etc) is the best for BC residents that have the HST @ 12% as Alberta GST is only 5 % but as the Government cracks down on them the bigger companies are charging HST on items shipped to BC;you will also have to pay HST on US imports unless you are lucky and the customs officer waves you past.
We have found JBs and Mopac to be competitive in price and service if you consider the time and costs involved with cross border shipping.

Re: any canucks order from summitt?

I just ordered a big order from Jegs. I ship to a warehouse at the border on the U.S. side and run down and get it myself. Shipping is dirt cheap within the States, so what I saved on shipping and versus buying from JBs or Mopac more then pays for my costs to go get it. Jegs has a hidden charge for handling that Summit doesn't, but Summit's shipping is higher so it costs the same. Jegs also ships with Fed Ex, and Summit uses UPS, so because of that I will only use Jegs from now on. No UPS for me. If you get your shipment to Canada, UPS will drill you for brokerage. Fed Ex will charge brokerage as well, but no where near as much.

As for ordering from Mopac or JBs, If they have what you want in stock, it's not too bad. If not, and they tell you it will take 4 weeks to get it, count on 8 weeks. I have dealt with both companies on both the retail and wholesale side for many years. I have learned the way they do business. At least with a U.S. retailer, I know if they have it, it will be at the border in 4 days. If they don't have stock, it's usually two weeks.

If you do buy from one of the Alberta retailers, use their Edmonton Branches. The service is sooooo much better from the Edmonton shops versus the Calgary ones. The Calgary Mopac won't ship with a credit card unless you fax them a photocopy of both sides of your card. I won't even call or set foot in JBs in Calgary, cause I am sure they just hire whoever happened to be walking by on the street that day. Most of the guys in Edmonton are fairly knowledgeable tho.

I ordered from summit, had it shipped through the postal service. The shipping was EXPENSIVE, but all you pay is the sales tax when it comes across the border.

After comparing housing prices and rust issues between Sask and Arizona I also wonder what I am doing sometimes.
