Another new 38-40mpg daily driver

Well, with the price of fuel now at the 4 dollar price per gallon the wife finally said she was tired of the fuel mileage of the PT Cruiser I got her in 2010. Now I will admit, the PT by design was essentially like driving a brick in the wind on a calm day, but a pretty brick it was that she wanted at the time.

Anyway, after a month of research in a budget I came up with this new 3-door coupe Veloster she liked. Since we still have the Saturn 3 door coupe, I thought why not another version of the same with hopefully something close in fuel economy? (Saturn is forever getting 36mpg consistently...GM never should have stopped the Saturn line!)

Won't agree to the advertised fuel economy for this "Veloster" until I see it happen but it is fun to drive. Never had one of "these" cars, but will see...for now, it is cheaper in fuel than the PT was and is closer to a sports car fun than the PT ever was designed not to be.
Granted it took some effort to learn the darn steering wheel gadgets until they were no longer distracting. Geez, even the trans can be shifted from the wheel if one wants to play with the 6-speed auto like a sports car.

Oh well, the wife drives this one. I only drove the PT 5 x's when we had it. I'm sticking with the C-30 when I need a truck and the Saturn to go to work and back...admitting this car is a step over and beyond the amount of technology I'll ever need and "Simple like a Saturn" is obviously no longer made...

(Of course I could have found her an old Falcon, or maybe a Rambler? with a 6cylinder...but I never would have heard the end of that one!)

Mark

We bought one of "these" back last year about this time. It was a used '02 Elantra and I'll tell you what... that thing will rack on the miles and save some money in the pocket book.

Keep us posted on how it does.
