Need help tunning a 1406
Hey guys,
I just got the truck back with the new motor last friday and put everything new on it.The problem i am haveing is the carb seems to run pretty rich,Kind of loading up alot,i dont know much about tunning these things but i am sure some of you do.Any help would be nice.Thanx |

Go to the store you bought the carb. from. buy a tuning kit. It will have a varied amount of metering rods and jets. ( usually about $35.00)
You can begin with just the rods, There is two small silver plates on top of the carb. along side of the air inlet, Remove these and you can pull the metering rods out. Look at the end of the rods and you'll see they reduce in size towards the end. The larger the diameter at the end, the less fuel that will go through the jets. (And of course Visa-Versa the smaller, the more) You more then likely can do what tuning is necessary with just the rods. But if you still need less fuel, then you'll have to remove the top of the carb. to get to the jets. Let us know if that happens. And it can get more involved with the jets,springs and rods. Ron |

Here is a chart. It depends a lot on your engine and your altitude. I have mine set at "14". "8" was also good for me.
