alright im trying to get into racing i have some questions

i just got a 92 chevy 1500 350 5 speed how to i get traction to the ground as soon as i pop the clutch i just do burnouts all day haha.


do i need traction bars or what?

its probally a stupid question but just wondering.

Try slicks, and traction bars. Add or move weight to the rear.

Some day stop by a local truck stop and get a front / rear axle weight. Then you'll know why she don't want to hook up. You need to add a 1/2 ton over the rear tires THEN it will hook n a car wash even with $25 PePBoys tires at all 4 corners LOL

Chassis set up for a drag racer is way different than a utility chassis designed to haul 1/2 or 3/4 ton hay. There are a lot of great books on the subject,, Dave Morgans "DOORSLAMMERS" is one of my favorites to explain theory and basic concept.

That said, a 92 with the leaf spring rear suspension will respond well to CalTracks and sticky tires (slicks, DOT street slicks or a true drag radial), a loose front suspension, and like moogy said..... if it doesn't HAVE to be in the front, move it to the rear and bolt it down.

Like Marv said sticky tires and cal tracs will help a bunch. http://calvertracing.com/ The manual trans will be the first thing to break when it does hook. I would looks towards a better manual if you are dead set on one or if it were mine I would put an auto in it.
Move the battery to the rear and lose anything you don't have to have up front.

10.39 1/4 @ 125.83

Nitrous Times:
5.785 1/8 @ 118.65 with a 1.336 60ft
9.168 1/4 @ 142.58 with a 250 shot dead out of the hole!

i would highly recomend that book (Dave Morgans "DOORSLAMMERS") for anyone looking at getting into racing. its help me understand and design the suspension on my truck. as well as just explain how centre of gravity, roll, pitch.... etc all come into play in regards to traction and racing. great book!

cal tracks are a must for leaf spring application

For startes, don't dump the clutch on the street. Even a well set up chassis can fry tires with a weak motor if you are dumping the clutch. It will go much faster if you slip the clutch.

After that, follow the other advise, tires, caltracs, moving weight, different front/rear springs/shocks.
