Dash instrument cluster light bulbs

Mine: 1981 silverado k20- what you using for instrument cluster light bulbs? 168 are the brighter, higher watt ones. 194 less bright

Anyone using replacement LED for the 168s? Last I check LEDs were very
expensive, Even the OE standard 168 are expensive $ now days,

Are LEDs too bright for instrument speedo, fuel, oil, temp, clock, amp guages ?

I see amazon amd ebay have odd ball brand 10 - 20 packs for $3,4,5, 6,7,8 bucks.(junk?) . Sylvania LED 168s are $20 bucks for just 2

I went with LED for the instruments and incandescent for the indicators.

I chose LED with a warm color, not cool/blue, to look more original.

Not installed yet so can't tell you how I like them.

I went with green LED lights across my instruments and dash. I was missing the green dashboards of the early sixties cars. I guess it just brings back good memories.

I bought a bagful off Ebay and they work fine. Lots of extras.

Re: Dash instrument cluster light bulbs

I have a near new cluster I obtained from Pull-A-Part out of a last of the squares Suburban. I used LEDs in that. Haven't installed it as I moved and swapping clusters hasn't made it to the top of the list yet.

One nice thing about LEDs is they come in colors so you can use green ones for the turn indicators, blue for the bright indicator, etc. Can help cover up any imperfections in the plastic covers for the indicator lights.

I noticed that the ones from Superbright tend to not care about polarity.

Another thing is during testing, they don't dim much via the OEM dimmer.
