61 c20 motor mount perch???

I am doing a 61 c20 with a 454 with a 4l80e so I need the side mount perches and im having trouble deciding what perches I need. ive built my own front crosmember so I don't have the lower bolt hole for the perches and my frame has no holes on top for the perches near the opening. so im wondering what perches would be best and how to locate them without any holes.. any advise would be much appreciated

Best mounts I've found for the big block conversions if using headers is the POL mounts. I ran 2" primaries off of them on my big block build. My guess is you'd have to weld them in if you don't want them bolted in.

Re: 61 c20 motor mount perch???

There aren't going to be any aftermarket engine mount brackets that will fit the '60-'62 frame without either a spacer on top of the frame or the need to be modified. The factory brackets for a '67-'72 with a small block will fit an original crossmember truck fairly closely, but those may not work in your application. Those engine mounts aren't known for their toughness anyway. When I installed the big block in my '66 Suburban, I used the '73+ engine mounts and clamshells, as in my opinion, those are the best factory engine mounts. Then I fabricated my own brackets to mount them to the crossmember at the height and angle that I wanted.

As far as locating the engine and trans in the frame, you will have to set the engine and trans in the frame and move it forward and backward to get the clearance you want between the firewall and heads/valve covers. The further back the better.

I do not know that answer as I have not used those brackets. Only factory brackets or the ones I have fabricated. Since you do not have the factory suspension crossmember, what works for others may not work for you.

Re: 61 c20 motor mount perch???

Check Erics build thread. He's using the POL mounts on his 62. Some pics to show the space between the mounts and the frame. Looks around 3/4"- 1"

His build: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...=608776&page=2

Re: 61 c20 motor mount perch???

I guess I am just gonna fab up some motor mounts. I was a little uneasy about it at first because I wasn't sure of exactly where to put it but from what I gather it just needs to be square with the frame and as far back as possible.

Re: 61 c20 motor mount perch???

When fabbing your engine mount brackets, keep in mind that in the end your trans output shaft needs to be the same angle as your pinion.
