Question a new heater core = huge heat but it didnt fit well - why?

Hey all. I changed the heater core in my red 67 today & the core I got from the parts place was 1/4" thinner than factory. The instructions for the new one said that you may have to use foam &/or adjust the brackets & they also say that the 2" core is more efficient that the 2 1/4" old one. I used two pieces of blue house insulation foam to shim it up. It throws MEGA heat now. I've seen this post here before but I cant find it now via the search method. What did you all do to solve this problem? Could a guy get his old heater core recored OR are proper brackets availible for the 2" core?

I made new brackets for mine. I'm not worried too much about OEM when it comes to a heater core as long as it fits in the box and I get heat out of it.

When I had mine blow out, I tried two different cores from two different places. They were both exactly 1/2 inch too thin. I ended up having mine re-cored for about $80 at a local shop. It was worth it to me.

Oh, and now's a good time to put on a 12 or 13 pound radiator cap. You don't need a high pressure cap and the heater core will thank you.

When I changed mine the mounting brackets wouldn't even fit over the end caps. Had to go to a different brand, solved everything.

I just snaged a pair o0f brackets from a later model truck. I believe the 69 up models used the thinner core.
