Unhappy Just switched engines and need help

Ok, i am having problems getting my truck back to life. It is a 69 blazer that sat
for 8 years(previous owner). I pulled out the old engine and dropped in another newer engine.

Problem: I can't get power to the dash unless I am cranking the engine
I get no lights(front and rear), no dash power, etc.

When I crank the engine, the lights come on and the dash lights up also and gauges work too.....

Did I connect something wrong? I checked the starter and figured that if it was wrong, it wouldn't crank when I turned the key.

help.

sounds liek a simple wire is hooked up to the keyed control (on with key) instead of a full time live wire
