How do you get the shifter off a granny low 4 speed tranny??? Its in a 1 ton 1970 truck. I haven't removed one in years and can't remember how they come off ???

Push down on the ring and turn counterclockwise. should lift out. John

Last one I did I used a pair of channel lock pliers to do the push down and turn. I didn't grip anything just opened them a notch or 2 and straddled the handle and pushing down which gave enough resistance to make the 1/4 turn if I remember right. One needs to be careful not to leave burrs on metal is all.
