2 piece driveshaft question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've got the 2 piece driveshaft and the center suppport bearing has had it. All the rubber around it is gone (amazingly its vibration free on the highway

). How hard is it to change or will I have to take it to a machine shop to get a new bearing pressed on? Kinda hoping for a weekend project. Thanks

Hi, No you can do it , kinda a PIA but with a good hammer an long punch you can knock it off , be sure to clean up shaft before installing the new bearing, have fun Slimone

Hope you have better luck than I did.
After beating on my carrier bearing for 2 hours, took it to an axle shop and they cut the old one off with a torch and pressed my new bearing back on in about 10 minutes.
Only charged me $10.

Maybe i should plan for a weekday job just incase.
