You will need the later model pig tail, aither from a junk yard, or the help section, I am not quite sure which way to wire that one up, and you'll also need some wire and crimp on connectors for the old regulater.
The new alt will bolt right in place of the old one, wire it all up, then when you get to the old reg, wire it up like this; ![]() ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Here is a link to a FAQ that has a good conversion process.
http://www.ucalgary.ca/~csimpson/Tech/RConvert.html This one has lots of info and claims external regulators burn up HEI modules. http://my.inil.com/~dlbrown/ofign.htm And this one is probably the best: http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofall.htm...r%20Conversion ------------------ 70 GMC 3/4 ton Sierra Grande 402/TH400 72 Jimmy 4WD 4spd 4" & 35's 64 Corvette Coupe 68 Camaro 'vert TPI & TH700 69 Z/28 355 12.6's @110 72 Datsun 240Z-ol' reliable

Retrofitting SI-Series Alternator,
At the Regulator: 1. White wire cut and tape (not needed) 2. Red wire cut and tape (not needed) 3. Cut the Blue and Brown wire and splice them together. At the Alternator: 1.The plug has two wires in it. The blue wire is the one you spliced to Brown wire at the regulator and nothing needs to be done to it. The white wire however was cut at the regulator and should be rewired to the battery terminal on the alternator. Hope this helps? I did it on my truck just recently. Went the extra mile and chased cut wires back through the harness to pull them. Removed the regulator and threw it away. ------------------ 72 Chevy A/C P/B P/S Tilt 454 Engine 400 TCI Trans 3" Exhaust W/Headers C30 Frame C10 Suspension Short Wheel Base (Dually)

Looking at my schematics, that makes no sence at all.
Where did you get this information at? ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. To use a internal reg alt you still hook up all the wires at the alt. Hook the ground to a case screw and then convert from the square connector to the newer flat style,(wires still go on the same sides, just different connector). And jumper the wires at the old ext reg harness plug like the pic longhorn posted.
There is a place called AlterStart on ebay that sells high amp alts at a reasonable price. I just bought a 135amp from them. Couldn't be happier. I have no idea how to install a One Wire Alt. ------------------

interesting. I'll have to look at my schematics some more, they are usually right, although, electrical upgrades seem to be hit and miss with them. (I'm a dedicated Car Craft reader) They way they tell you to wire HEI is crazy.
