nuts and bolts
I have an 82 blazer frame that just got back from powder coating and i want to start putting all the stuff back on so i can FINALLY drive it. I want to replace ALL the nuts and bolts that attach to the frame but i dont want to spend all of my time in home depot looking and fitting just to find out that they dont actually work on the frame itself. Does anyone know where i can find kits that would have all the bolts for a specific group of parts...like...brake and fuel line clamp bolts? Or motor mount bolts, or bumper bracket bolts? Any help would be appreiated. Thank you!

Re: nuts and bolts
Well, first off, you want to get grade 8 hardware. Don't skimp on chassis hardware, it is your safety involved. Chances are you won't find this stuff at the home centers anyway. Give places like CPP (www.classicperf.com) or ECE (www.earlyclassic.com) a call and see if they offer a "kit". I'm pretty sure CPP does, but if not they will be able to direct you to someone that does. Also, might want to PM Joe (67c10step). He's building up his chassis now and will probably have a lead for ya.

Re: nuts and bolts
Watch out for cheap (weak) hardware. Many hardware stores only carry grade 2 bolts, which are not strong enough for automotive work. I broke a 1/2" grade 2 bolt with only hand tools, and no leg muscles or cheater pipes were involved, and I'm fat & out of shape & over 50.

Re: nuts and bolts
I also read that a "John Deere" dealership would have grade 8 bolts, nuts, etc. that sell by quantity instead of each-would be great quality

Re: nuts and bolts
Regarding my chassis, I have been able to take old fasteners up to the local supply store and match up pretty much every thing so far
![]() Once I start assembling the body, that may change. Even careful tagging and bagging will have some missed parts I'm sure ![]() |
