Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

Finally made some progress today. Sprayed the paint the cab and set it on the frame. Looks like I may make my deadline of 2009 at the rate I'm going.
Here is a couple pics.

Thanks.
It is hugger orange. Going to have some charcoal SS stripes (I think).
That is a 454. It is just there for fit. I have another 454 at the machine shop now that should be back next week (maybe). I don't have the specifics in front of me, but it is supposed to make about 650 hp when he is done. Running a TH350 trans that has been beefed up. Going to put a 2200rpm stall converter in. 3:73 posi in the rear.

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

Good combination. Sounds familiar of what I'm gonna do with mine when I get it. Only I'm gonna stroke my 454 to a 496, but I'm probably not gonna build it to make as big of horsepower that you are. I wanna try to get about 475-500 horsepower, and somewhere between 550 and 600 pd ft of torque out of it.

What brand of headers did you use?

Interested in the headers, too.

Need something that doesn't drop below the frame.

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

These are Hedman hedders. They are 3/4 length. The only part # I can find on them is 68610 17, and it is stamped on both flanges. I did have to clearance the frame a little on the passenger side. Hope that helps.

Excellent, for a 67-81BBC Camaro?

I wonder if others will fit. I'd like to find a stainless header.

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

not sure what they are for. I got them from a board member about a year or so ago. These are that ceramic coated. They do look pretty nice. Haven't run them yet, though.

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

That is what they are for:
67-81BBC Camaro
Also fits a bunch of other large cars like 65-81:

* BEL AIR,
* BISCAYNE,
* BROOKWOOD,
* CAMARO,
* CAPRICE,
* CHEVELLE,
* CHEVY II,
* EL CAMINO,
* IMPALA,
* KINGSWOOD,
* MALIBU,
* MONTE CARLO,
* NOVA,
* TOWNSMAN

Engine Size

* 6.6L/402,
* 6.5L/396,
* 7.4L/454,
* 7.0L/427

Don't know what a kingswood, brookwood or a townsman is...

IIRC when I got them he said chevelle. Didn't realize there were so many different applications!

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

I found a set of shorties in stainless I'm going to try.
What did you have to do to the frame? Got pics?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

I cut a little on the passenger side from the top rail. About 3/8" wide and about 3-4i" long by the #3 and #5 cylinder tubes, just for a little clearance. The hedder hit the frame, so I just gave it a little room. Fit good on the drivers side. I don't have a good pic of it, but I'll try to get one for you tomorrow when I go out there.

I'd appreciate it. I have the body off the frame right now.

What engine mounts did you use?

I have 72 BBC mounts that use the later clamshell style mount... Can you throw a measuring tape on the block/header flange to the stock frame?

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

I'll see what I can do. Where do you want measured?
I am using what I thought was the 72 mounts, but according to everyones pictures, I am using the other style, that the bolt goes up through the middle.

From the header flange on the block to the frame rail, near the motor mount, if you can. I am trying to see what I need to chop out, if anything Thanks alot!

Yes, the bolt up toward the engine block is the old style. The later style runs with the frame.

Re: Thought I'd never get to put some paint on, but.....

Here is the notch I cut. It starts 2 3/8" from the rear tower bolt hole, and measures 1/2" x 6".

There is about 4 1/2" between the exhaust port and the frame rail.

Here are the hedders I am using.

Motor mount (drivers side)

And the motor in the process of finishing. Just waiting on a cam to finish it up.

Hope these help. Sorry for the size.

You rock, thank you.

Looks like they will fit my truck without cutting the frame. I have 5.5" of clearance.

Sadly it seems that my camera is never charged when I am out in the garage. I am working on the chassis now.
