68 Power Steering Pump

I'm having a little trouble finding a replacement power steering pump for my 68 c10 . This is the big block setup with the remote resevoir. Where does everyone go to get a rebuilt ? I need it complete with the housing and pulley , mine is messed up . Also need the pressure side p/s hose . Thanks

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

pump or box? i got my PS box from advance auto parts.

i just have one question remaining though: the low pressure port has a flare on it, i don't know if it's a 37º AN flare or a 45º flare. i'd like to know though

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

with a remote reservoir, that would be a pump..... 409, looks like you're getting more questions than answers ;-) .... here's another.... I just bought a 68 with a 396, also have the ps pump with remote reservoir. Was this a stock engine for this year.... i've been told the remote reservoir feature was usually on vans and motor homes? My pump is leaking bad, around top at the high pressure connection, PO tried to epoxy it, not working too well.... hasn't been a high prioity and I haven't looked very hard yet but be interesting to see what kind of answers you come up with.

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

Yeah , still need a little help , the 396 was an engine option in 68 / 69 , and the big blocks used the remote mount resevoir , cars also . My pump actually works fine , but the case is hammered . Previous owner ( owners ) were pretty rough on it. The problem is the counter guys at these discount auto stores will sell ya just about anything , correct or not . Plus i've got to wait up to a week to recieve it . Just hoping someone else has it figured out.

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

The restoration places have 'em but they're pricey, like over $100. I put a seal kit in mine, but the case wasn't hammered. Maybe find a used case? Desert Rat had some pulleys a while back...

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

The rebuilts are really hard to find. You can sometimes get the internal pump, but not the can/housings...and they never come with the pulley.

I have a pulley...and I should be putting a complete rebuilt together soon...Hang on to your wallet, this BB stuff is expensive. The core charge on a complete w/can is about $50-60, less on just inside unit, so hang on to your old parts.

I just bought another '71 BB truck yesterday, so I have the BB PS/alt brackets/MM/pulleys. If interested, PM me.

Re: 68 Power Steering Pump

I couldn't find the housing with a remote tube. I took a regular housing used a hole saw and brazed the tube on to the non remote housing.
rebuilding the power steering pump is actually pretty easy if you have a bench vise. Have to make sure the pump body isn't scored, polish all the new vanes ect and make sure you bleed the system.
Jack it up wheels off the ground, fill it up start the engine, don't turn the steering wheel, turn it off, let it sit, refill, then restart turning the wheel, might have to do it a couple of times to get all the air out
