Re: Mt. Airy, MD

He found me.As usual,ignore me,too.
Mt.Airy,MD:A quaint little town located in the piedmont region of central Maryland. It was founded later than most towns in the area.Beginning as a watering stop for the B&O Railroad as they made the grade at the highest point east of the Blue Ridge mountains. It was often windy and at the time a common expression would have been made,"It`s awful darn airy up here."So,as the whistle stop grew to a town from around the depot, the name Mt.Airy was incorporated into a town in 1893.The days of crossing the ridge and using Plane-lifts ended with the construction of a tunnel, the longest tunnel east of the Rockies.Other topics of interest include.....Uh,we used to have alot of junkyards before the yuppie castles took over.

Re: Mt. Airy, MD

I drive by the "Huddle Club" every day on the way to work. It's recently been remodeled and is called "Divas" now. I also drive by one called the "Millenium Club" and one in Bunker Hill that changes names every few weeks.

Never been inside any of them, but it seems to be a bumper industry in the area! lol

I haven't been to such an establishment since I was in the Navy (primarily in Key West where the "Pirates Den" seemed to be a device designed to extract money, one e-4 paycheck at a time, from the US government via my alcohol fuzzed brain.)

Those establishments and our "casino" (such as it is) seem to be a more significant tourist attraction than Harpers Ferry, especialy now that the outlet malls have moved to Hagerstown.

Is Fredrick still considered the DMZ between uber-liberal suburban Maryland and the redneck, gun-toting, too-right-wing-for-republicans west, or has that moved out to Hagerstown now? lol

Re: Mt. Airy, MD

Frederick is like Montgomery County/West.The "old" flavor can still be found, but it`s 50/50.Give it another generation and the new will have taken over the old. It`s not "out there by itself" anymore and Hagerstown is catching up quick.Alot of that developement is moving into Charlestown and Martinsburg is next. Can you say MARC?Headupyerass Wa****onians all over.Oh my gawd!
Good fer you, don`t give it all to the garter.WVA has alot more to offer. Most of it ain`t inside nowarz.
